Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech has said the media is misleading the public on the issue of the proposed Finance Bill 2023.
While speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, June 6, the lawmaker noted that the press is ‘driving the wrong narrative to the public’.
According to Koech, media has exaggerated the debate around the finance bill, claiming it is swaying Kenyans who have not taken time to personally read the bill.
The Belgut MP further alleged that the media ignores those who support the bill and lays more focus on reporting those who oppose it.
“So many people have not socialized with this finance bill is just a talk, actually the narrative out there is being driven by the media,” Koech claimed.

“People have just relied on the media, media is becoming sensational on this matter. There are so many that have come out to support the bill why has it not been reported, your only reporting is negative.” He added.
The law maker further argued that the bill includes lots of favorable proposals that will benefit Kenyans.
He called on members of the press to fill in the crevices causing the information gap.
The Belgut member of parliament lauded the public participation exercise saying it allowed people to give their input on where they feel that this comes to injure the citizens.
“I like when people criticize the bill and say this is the section that I am uncomfortable with. Anyone who comes to you and says that this entire bill is hogwash then of course they are lying. There is something that is good about this document,” he said.
Koech, also criticized the opposition, urging them to rather furnish Kenyans with a copy of the bill.
“I have read the bill and if you critique, like what happens in the U.S or other jurisdictions, an opposition should be providing an alternative that is why the finance bill becomes a public document at some point,” he stated.
