The Kingdom of Morocco has joined the rest of the world in welcoming a conditional ceasefire reached between the United States and Iran on April 8, 2026.
In a statement on April 9, the Rabat categorically stated that it supports the negotiations announced by US President Donald Trump.
“The Kingdom of Morocco welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” read part of a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the same time, Morocco said it was looking forward to a lasting peace solution in the region after years of instability characterized by wars.
“The Kingdom of Morocco supports the forthcoming negotiations with Pakistani facilitation and hopes that these negotiations will lead to lasting peace, strengthen stability in the region, and take into account the higher interests of the brotherly Arab countries of the Gulf,” said Morocco.
In addition, the Kingdom of Morocco emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international maritime law.

President Trump announced the peace deal, suspending strikes in Iran for two weeks to allow negotiations to take place – the talks will kick off on Friday, April 10, in Islamabad.
“I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks… This will be a double-sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives… We received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalised and consummated,” said Trump.
Moreover, Trump maintained that Iran must open the Strait of Hormuz for the negotiations to take place.
On its part, Iran gave a ten-point plan as a roadmap towards a lasting solution to the conflict in the Gulf. Among other things, Iran called for an end to all attacks, allowing Tehran to continue controlling the Strait of Hormuz, and recognition of its uranium enrichment program.

Iran also called for the suspension of all sanctions, compensation, withdrawal of troops in the region, and the end of attacks on every country in the region, including Lebanon.
While Israel supported the ceasefire, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held that the deal excludes Lebanon, further threatening the success of the process.
Morocco has maintained its position for a stable Gulf, including ending the conflict in Gaza and finding a permanent solution.
