At least six people were reported dead after a fire ravaged Kitui Village in Kamukinji Nairobi, county. The inferno destroyed 50 houses with scores of people nursing varying degrees of injuries.
The inferno broke out at around 8:30 pm, on Tuesday, November 19, burning down 50 houses and forcing the residents to seek shelter in the neighbouring estates.
A statement by the Kenya Red Cross on the fire incident read in part, “Together with the Nairobi City County Fire Department and community members, we have managed to contain a fire in Kitui Village, Majengo, Nairobi.”
“Around 50 households were affected, and sixteen people sustained minor injuries, all treated by the Kenya Red Cross. The Kenya Red Cross remains on-site, supporting efforts to locate missing persons,” further, the statement noted.

Several People Missing
Media reports confirmed several missing people after the fire. The multi-agency team, including the Kenya Red Cross, National Police Service (NPS), and Nairobi Disaster Management, intensified efforts to extinguish the blaze.
Despite the injuries, the humanitarian group affirmed that the firefighters who arrived at the scene shortly after the outbreak managed to contain it with the assistance of locals.
Additionally, photos and videos circulated on social media of the incident depicted residents standing at a far distance as they watched the flames consume several properties of unknown value.
At the same time, some residents were captured trying to salvage what they could from the furious fire.
However, the cause of the fire is not yet established. Furthermore, the police have launched an investigation to find out the root cause of the fire.

Fire Incidents Across the Country
This incident adds to the growing number of fire outbreaks nationwide, particularly in Nairobi. The Kamukunji tragedy occurred just hours after a fire in the Mlango Kubwa Estate of Mathare Sub County, Nairobi, caused significant property damage, though the exact value remains undetermined.
The fire broke out on Monday, November 18 at around 7:30 pm and burnt down at least 50 households.
Red Cross noted, “Fire outbreak reported in Mathare, Mlango Kubwa area. Our Community-Based Disaster Response Team (CBDRTs) is at the scene.”
Moreover, police and the Nairobi Disaster Management team battled the inferno and contained it.
