Long-distance transport company Ena Coach has issued a statement apologizing to customers following a major traffic jam around Gilgil and Mai Mahiu that began on Friday night, leaving motorists stranded for hours.
According to the company, the gridlock disrupted departures from Nairobi to upcountry routes, trips from upcountry to Nairobi, and arrivals to and from Mombasa.
“Dear Esteemed Customer, We sincerely apologize for the ongoing delays caused by a traffic snarl-up since last night around Gilgil and Mai Mahiu. This situation is affecting departures from Nairobi to Upcountry, Upcountry to Nairobi, as well as arrivals from and at Mombasa,” read part of the statement.
The Mai Mahiu highway is a major corridor linking Nairobi with western Kenya and the South Rift Valley regions, serving thousands of travelers daily, including long-distance travelers, cargo and delivery services, and public transport operators.
Ena Coach Issues Statement Following the Traffic Delay
Ena Investment Ltd also warned that parcel deliveries may be delayed due to the ongoing situation.
Additionally, the company expressed regret for the inconvenience and urged passengers to remain patient as authorities work to restore normal traffic along the affected corridor.
“We truly regret the inconvenience caused and kindly ask for your patience and understanding as the relevant authorities work to restore normal traffic flow,” read part of the statement.

Hundreds of motorists were caught in gridlock that lasted for more than five hours on Friday, February 2 night. Traffic on the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway was brought to a standstill after heavy rains that extended into Saturday, February 28, morning.
The Maai Mahiu route, which connects Nairobi to Narok, Bomet, Kisii, and Nyamira counties, was also affected.
In videos and photos reviewed by The Kenya Times, travelers and motorists were seen stuck in long queues of vehicles at night. KeNHA was yet to explain the cause of the snarl-up by the time of publication.
Heavy Rain Across Major Parts of the Country
Heavy rains have continued to pound various parts of the country after the Kenya Meteorological Department warned that they would extend into early March. The weather department warned that the rains would cause floods in some areas as the country welcomes the onset of the long rains.

The rains have disrupted transport activities in some areas after floods rendered some parts impassable. On Thursday, February 26, a tourist van was swept away by the swollen River Mara in Narok County, prompting stakeholders in the tourism sector to sound the alarm.
In the Tsavo East Park, the Kenya Wildlife Service on Friday warned visitors and tour operators against using the Malindi – Sala Gate and the Sala Gate – Aruba Area after heavy rains in the area rendered the two entry points impassable.
Nairobi residents were also affected after heavy rains left sections of highways, including the Uhuru Highway, flooded.
