Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has announced fresh listing of beneficiaries for the cash transfer program popularly known as Inua Jamii.
In a statement on Tuesday, May 21, CS Bore revealed plans for a fresh registration drive targeting an additional 500,000 beneficiaries.
The registration process, set to commence on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, will focus on two key groups: Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer and Orphans and Vulnerable Children.
“Household registration for Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer (PWSD-CT) and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) is starting tomorrow Wednesday 22nd May 2024,” said CS Bore.
Additionally, the government will also begin the account opening process for older persons on the same date.
This is aimed at ensuring that no one is left behind in the government’s efforts to uplift the most vulnerable members of society.

The first cash transfer payments for these new beneficiaries are scheduled to begin in June 2024, providing a much-needed boost to their financial security.
Government Releases Funds for the Program
This announcement came after the government released Ksh 2.07 billion to existing Inua Jamii beneficiaries in April.
The registration drive will provide eligible individuals with a monthly stipend of Ksh2,000.
Furthermore, following President William Ruto’s Directive, Inua Jamii Beneficiaries will be receiving their stipend through Mpesa.
According to the head of state, this change would save the beneficiaries, who are mostly elderly or disabled, from travelling long distances to receive the cash, incurring attendant costs and other inconveniences.
Eligibility Criteria for Inua Jamii Funds
i.) The Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) targets:
- Extremely poor households with one or more OVCs as permanent members.
- Households with a caregiver who is chronically ill and/or unable to perform their duties.
- Households not benefiting from any social assistance program.

ii.) The Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) is intended for older persons who:
- Are Kenyan citizens, aged 70 years and above and not receiving a pension.
- Have resided in a particular location for more than a year.
- Are not enrolled in any other cash transfer program.
iii.) The Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer (PWSD-CT) is designed for extremely poor households:
- Having a person with a severe disability (PWSD), who is a Kenyan citizen.
- Not enrolled in any other cash transfer program.
- Residing in a particular location for more than a year.
iv.) The Hunger Safety Net Program (HSNP) caters to:
- Vulnerable and poor households in Northern Kenya, residing in the poorest arid counties of Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, and Wajir.
