The government through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection on Friday, 5th April 2024 released Ksh2,076,610,000 for March payment to beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii programme.
Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Joseph Motari said a further Ksh. 4,992,500 was disbursed for Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE), which is a complimentary programme.

“Payment will commence on Monday, 8th April 2024. The delay was occasioned by the Easter holiday celebrations,” the PS said.
Following President William Ruto’s Directive, Inua Jamii Beneficiaries will be receiving their Stipends through Mpesa.

According to the head of state, this change would save the beneficiaries from travelling long distances to receive the cash, incurring attendant costs and other inconveniences.
“This started with The Orphans and Vulnerable Children and Persons with Severe Disabilities caregivers who access their stipends by dialing *222#,” Motari said.

“Older Persons Cash transfer beneficiaries will continue to receive their stipends through their Inua Jamii bank accounts.”

Inua Jamii
Inua Jamii programme is a government cash transfer initiative that supports the most vulnerable members of the community.
It provides a stipend to cushion them from poverty, hunger as well as improve their lives.
Furthermore, Inua Jamii beneficiaries include the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) and the Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT).
It also includes Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer (PWSD-CT), and the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP).
Eligibility Criteria for Inua Jamii Funds
i.) The Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) targets:
- Extremely poor households with one or more OVCs as permanent members.
- Households with a caregiver who is chronically ill and/or unable to perform their duties.
- Households not benefiting from any social assistance program.

ii.) The Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) is intended for older persons who:
- Are Kenyan citizens, aged 70 years and above and not receiving a pension.
- Have resided in a particular location for more than a year.
- Are not enrolled in any other cash transfer program.
iii.) The Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer (PWSD-CT) is designed for extremely poor households:
- Having a person with a severe disability (PWSD), who is a Kenyan citizen.
- Not enrolled in any other cash transfer program.
- Residing in a particular location for more than a year.
iv.) The Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP) caters to:
- Vulnerable and poor households in Northern Kenya, residing in the poorest arid counties of Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, and Wajir.
