Since its launch in 2007, M-PESA has transformed the way Kenyans send and receive money, making transactions easier even across long distances.

Over the years, Safaricom has expanded the service to include multiple ways of accessing M-PESA, ensuring that users can transact conveniently whether through the traditional SIM Toolkit, the MySafaricom App, or other digital channels.

This article examines the various methods available to Safaricom users and how each can be utilized to facilitate everyday transactions.

Using Safaricom M-PESA Tool Kit

To use M-PESA through the SIM Toolkit, start by finding the app on your phone. On Android, it may appear as “Safaricom,” “SIM Toolkit,” or “SIM Tool Kit” in your app list.

For iPhone users, it can be found under Settings by navigating to Mobile Data and then selecting SIM Applications.

Once you open the SIM Toolkit, choose “M-PESA” from the main menu. From there, you will be presented with a list of services, including Send Money, Withdraw Cash, My Account, and Lipa na M-PESA.

Select the service you wish to use and follow the on-screen prompts. To complete any transaction, you will be required to enter your M-PESA PIN for verification.

Using USSD Code

Alternatively, users can access M-PESA via USSD code *334#.

The *334# code provides all M-PESA services available on the SIM Toolkit.

Dial *334# and select options such as Send Money, Loans and Savings, or Lipa Na M-PESA.

Select the desired service by entering the corresponding number.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your transaction.

Using  M-PESA app

To access the M-PESA app, users must download it from the Google Play Store for Android devices and the App Store for iOS devices.

After installation, you will log in with your M-PESA PIN to begin transacting.

For your first-time login, you must have your Safaricom SIM card in your phone with mobile data turned on. This is required for secure authentication.

Open the app and enter your M-PESA PIN to sign in.

If your device supports it, you can set up fingerprints or facial recognition for faster and more secure logins and transaction approvals.

Using MySafaricom App

To access M-PESA services using the MySafaricom App, you first need to download the app from the Google Play Store if you are using an Android device, or from the App Store if you are using an iPhone.

Once installed, open the application and register by entering your Safaricom mobile number.

You will receive a one-time password (OTP) via SMS, which you use to verify your identity before setting up a password or PIN for future logins.

You can also view your account details, including your balance, statements, and PIN management options.
