Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has dismissed the likelihood of President William Ruto having talks with opposition chief Raila Odinga.
The CS during an interview with BBC’s Focus on Africa stated that instead of engaging in talks with the opposition, the government will employ new tactics in resolving the political crisis in Kenya.
“I can assure you that what is happening in Kenya has nothing to do with the high cost of living. It is nothing but economic terrorism,” he said.
When asked if the president is willing to engage Raila Odinga in talks, the Trade CS said it is not possible.
“Talk about what? He is a member of a party, he is the leader of the Opposition, he’s got members in parliament, he’s got a sizeable number in that parliament. We have almost half of the Members in Parliament, he can be able to make his case within that Parliament. This rewarding him for undermining institutions, undermining democracy, losing elections all the time and coming out to say talk to me. About what!” CS Kuria stated.
Moreover, Moses Kuria said they will borrow tactics from the neighboring countries.
“It means that we are going to deal with him the way Kagame deals with his opponents, the way Museveni deals with his opponents, there is no other way.” Added the CS.

When asked how the two presidents deal with their opposition, the CS said through safeguarding democracy and the sovereignty of the people.
Nonetheless, the opposition leader Raila Odinga has launched protests since last week, seeking to force the government to reduce the high cost of living among other issues.
Mr. Odinga also claims presidential victory was stolen from him during the August 2022 elections.
However, President William Ruto during his tour to Kisii, Nyamira and Migori Counties appealed to the Azimio leader to call off the mass protests, saying they are disrupting the economy.
“I suffered so much because of him (Odinga). I am appealing to Odinga while here in Nyanza. Please tone down. I supported you, I voted for you to the point I was taken to the Hague. Now it’s your time to return the favor,” Ruto said.
