Third Way Alliance Kenya Party Leader Ekuru Aukot has advised the government to control the high cost of living before it spreads to the rural counties.
In a statement, Aukot noted that Kenyans in urban areas are already experiencing harsh economic conditions, something that should not be allowed to explode to the other parts of the country.
Aukot explained that it will be difficult to reverse the unsustainable economic situation should it be allowed to reach the rural counties.
“There is a real deep worry that the current state of economic life in urban country is not sustainable. There is an even greater worry that if this situation leads to social strife and implodes across the country, then it will be so difficult to put the whole country back together again,” he said.
Govt Officials Not Worried Over a Grappling Economy
The politician also pointed out that government officials don’t seem alarmed by the grappling economy.
He also called out leaders living lavish lifestyles, riding huge motorcades and helicopters while Kenyans lacked important services like health, food, and education.
“This is truly troubling and is made worse by the daily obscene, offensive, and blatant display of wastage of public finances by the leaders in ostentatious huge motorcades, helicopter rides to villages, expensive dresses, refurbishing of houses, offices.
“While health services, Education in schools and colleges, food access across the country remain serious and increasing problems. The leaders don’t seem to care. Very worrying indeed,” he added.

According to Aukot, it will be difficult for President William Ruto to get the economy back on track.
The former presidential candidate noted that the situation is worrisome since the people have lost trust and pride in the office of the president.
“To get back our country together again is going to be tough. Already the signs are not good. Kenyans have been shouting back at president Ruto and insulting him at his rallies in all the different regions of the country, especially where he received most support in the last elections including central, eastern, Rift valley and western,” he said.

Aukot Blasts Ruto’s Constitution Remarks
Besides, he said Section 25 of the Constitution does not exist as stated by Ruto while defending the affordable housing plan.
Aukot explained that it is only Article 25 that exists in the Constitution, and it does not speak about housing.
“There is no section 25. But there is article 25 that speaks to human rights that may not be limited, e.g., freedom from torture, and cruel treatment, not to be held in slavery and servitude, right to fair trial, right to habeas corpus…No relation at all to housing,” said Aukot.
President Ruto had earlier said that Section 25 of the Constitution mandates him as president to explain if there is a problem to raise money for the affordable housing plan.
