A former Kenyan Member of Parliament who served as a Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Bob Francis Jalang’o Nyanduga, has passed away.
His death was announced on Thursday, July 17, 2025, by current Rarieda MP, Otiende Amollo.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I learn of the demise of Hon. Bob Francis Jalang’o Nyanduga,” said Amollo.

He eulogized the late Jalang’o as a trailblazer who holds a special place in Rarieda’s history, having served as the constituency’s inaugural Member of Parliament from 1988 to 1992.
“His tenure laid a foundation for our constituency which continues to shape the Rarieda we know today. On behalf of the great people of Rarieda Constituency, my family and I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Hon. Bob Francis Jalang’o. We share in your grief during this immensely trying time,” said the legislator.
Amollo further noted that Jalang’o’s service and pioneering spirit will always be remembered in Rarieda’s history.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

Following the announcement, Kenyans took to social media to share messages of condolence.
A user named Berry Bearie fondly recalled past encounters with Jalang’o when he visited his daughters at Lwak Girls High School in Rarieda.
“A very humble and ordinary parent at Lwak Girls High School during our time. He was indeed the MP then.
He was with us in Kabarak at the late President Moi’s home when we visited in 1990. Of course, he was very present when President Moi visited Lwak in 1991. In recent years, we enjoyed greeting each other during the All Saints Cathedral Nairobi livestream chats. He was always there. Pole sana to his family, friends, and the entire Rarieda community. Poleni sana,” she wrote.
Another user, Kamusa Benedict, said, “He was a great MP during that time. May his soul rest in peace.”
Joseph Thomas added, “My sincere condolences to the family and the people of Rarieda.”
The Career of the Ex- MP
Bob Francis Jalang’o served as Rarieda MP from 1988 to 1992. During his tenure, he served on several parliamentary committees, including the Select Committee to investigate ethnic clashes in Kenya and the Public Accounts Committee.
In 1997, he was appointed Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations agencies in Rome.
He also served as Kenya’s Ambassador to Italy, Greece, and Poland. While in Rome, he was part of Kenya’s delegation to two biennial conferences of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), worked closely with the World Food Programme (WFP), and served on the Executive Board of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

He also held the position of Vice-Chairman of the African Group of Ambassadors to UN agencies in Rome. His duties included chairing the African Group’s Candidatures Committee and serving as Group Chairman in 2000.
Before joining politics, Jalang’o worked in various roles at three international corporations: Business Machines Limited (Kenya), Caltex Services Mid-Africa, and Caltex Oil Limited.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics from Makerere University in Uganda in 1970. That same year, he also obtained a certificate in Computer Programming from the Olivetti Computer Centre in Florence, Italy.
