Governance Expert Cathy Irungu has thrown her weight behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as the right flagbearer for the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nixon Njau of The Kenya Times, Irungu, known for her insightful commentary on Kenya’s shifting political landscape, stated that Matiangi is the right person to lead the Opposition in facing President Ruto in 2027.
Furthermore, she stated that as the Jubilee Party, they have refused to put Fred Matiangi in a box labeled the Kisii, adding that they would not agree that Fred Matiangi comes on board in the United Opposition as a Kisii, but rather as a national leader.
However, Irungu warned during the interview that if Matiang’i is not chosen as the United Opposition’s flagbearer, the coalition risks losing him, as the Jubilee Party could present him as its presidential candidate.
