People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has clarified reports circulating on social media that suggest various opposition leaders have already chosen the positions they are eyeing ahead of the 2027 general elections including claims that she is targeting the Speaker of the National Assembly position should the opposition form the next government.
Speaking during a radio interview with Ramogi FM, Karua dismissed the claims, stating that she has already served in Parliament and has no intention of returning in any capacity.
“That lineup is just someone’s personal thoughts. If there were such a lineup, as one of the principals, it would have been brought to us for discussion.
I am the co-convener together with Kalonzo Musyoka, and we have not called any meeting or been informed about it. I served in Parliament for twenty years—four consecutive terms—and I even ran for president in 2012. I cannot go back there in any capacity, whether as Speaker or in any other role,” Karua stated.
Karua Says She Will Not Go Back to Parliament
Karua reiterated that she is content with the 20 years she served in Parliament and has no desire to return.
She stressed that the opposition has not yet agreed on which positions each leader will be seeking ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At the same time, the PLP party leader addressed the possibility of the opposition engaging with President William Ruto on the proposed conclave dialogue, which was suggested by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga following protests witnessed in the country on June 25 and July 7, 2025.
The PLP Party Leader firmly stated that she cannot engage with President Ruto due to what she termed as dishonesty.
Proposed Opposition Lineup in the Event They Win the Elections
Karua also hinted at a possible alliance with the former Prime Minister, but only if he exits his current broad-based partnership with President Ruto and agrees to support her presidential bid.
“I would agree to work with him if he supports me—not the other way around. I supported him, so it’s my turn,” Karua said.
According to the lineup circulating on social media, Dr. Fred Matiang’i is being proposed as the presidential flagbearer, with Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate.
