Karua Under Fire Over Her Remarks on Ruto’s Presidency

The Narc Kenya leader still maintains her decision of faulting the electoral process undertaken.

Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has faced criticism from a section of Kenyans following her remarks concerning President William Ruto’s presidency.

Speaking during an interview on December 28, Karua maintained that she does not recognize the head of state as her President.

The Narc Kenya leader went on to affirm that she had the freedom of speech to make such remarks concerning President Ruto.

“No, he is not my President. I reckon he is in office; however, I don’t believe the process that gave him,” she said.

Furthermore, the Azimio principle was adamant that the decision made by the Supreme Court to approve the 2022 general elections was flawed.

Karua Faults Court’s Decision

According to her, the rejection of the election validity by four of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners was enough for nullification.

“If four commissioners can say that we can’t vouch for that and the court trashes them it is basically legitimizing that three can overrule four in a panel,” added Karua.

However, Karua maintained that nullification of the results wasn’t only the option following the commissioners’ disapproval.

“If not to nullify, at least let them go back and re-tally, there are many options,” she said.

Notably, Karua with other Azimio leaders have been constantly faulting the 2022 electoral process that saw President Ruto ascend into power.

Martha Under fire

Following her remarks, the Narc leader has come under fire from a section of Kenyans who expressed mixed reactions.

A user on X noted that Karua’s decision of not recognizing President Ruto’s presidency is similar to that of another Azimio insider.

Mohamed Tache Dida went on to add, “Martha is taking a path once travelled by Prof. Makau Mutua of not recognizing so and so as President.”

However, according to him, Mutua has since abandoned the path midway in favor of his sanity, further adding that Karua would suffer the same.

Also, another user went on to call out the Narc Kenya leader urging her to accept and move on from last year’s general election.

“This is bitterness and jealousy. After all her party got no elected leader! This one will never heal,” lamented Ole Pekiro.

On the other hand, another user went on to dismiss Karua’s claims of election fraud pointing out that she failed to garner votes in her own backyard.

“She could not garner votes at her rural home, yet she is all over social media claiming how their victory was stolen?” posed Chrles Kigoro.

However, a section of Kenyans agreed with Martha’s remarks concerning the electoral process.

One user noted that Karua’s claims of election fraud could have been true but urged her to accept because Kenyans had already moved on.

Karua Says Azimio is United

Also, the Azimio principle maintained that the coalition is still together and that all leaders are moving as one.

This is following a division among the coalition’s leaders concerning the final report submitted by the National Dialogue Commitee in November.

Karua said that having divergent opinions does not mean that people are not together. According to her, leaders also debate among themselves.

“That is what democracy is all about, even when we sit in closed doors meetings, we don’t all sing the same chorus, we debate which is so healthy,” she said.
