The United States (US) is preparing to mark October 7 as Liberation Day, as a way of mocking Western countries that are moving to recognize a Palestinian state.
The declaration comes just as President Donald Trump prepares to address the United Nations General Assembly, where America will be on the opposing side with much of the world over the war in Gaza.
Senator Lindsey Graham, one of Trump’s closest allies in the Senate, has warned that the decision could encourage extremist groups.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Graham said that giving Palestine state recognition amounts to rewarding violence following the Hamas-led October 7 attack on Israel.
“Because of these actions, throughout the terrorist world, October 7 will now be considered ‘Liberation Day,’” Graham wrote.

Why the US is Opposing Western Countries on Palestine
The Senator argued that a Palestinian state is being recognized without the structures and agreements needed for peace.
Further, he pointed out the lack of clear borders, leadership, or security guarantees for Israel.
Western Democracies recognizing a mythical Palestinian state, one without leaders, one without borders, one without a capital and one without accommodations for Israel’s security, is truly rewarding the largest slaughter of Jews since WWII.
Graham compared the recognition of Palestinian statehood to appeasement of “modern-day religious Nazis,” warning that such actions would embolden terrorist organizations worldwide.
He further accused groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, and the Houthis of having no genuine interest in a two-state solution.
“To those Western leaders who embrace this, I do not believe you are anti-Semitic, just shockingly ignorant and blind to what you are doing,” he added.

The Global Recognition Drive
According to reporting from CNN, France and Saudi Arabia will co-host a high-level conference aimed at advancing a two-state solution.
The meeting is supported by 142 of the UN’s 193 member states and will see President Emmanuel Macron formally recognize Palestine.
He has said the step is intended to weaken Hamas by offering Palestinians a political alternative.
Additionally, the UK, Canada, Australia, and Belgium are expected to follow with similar announcements during the UN gathering.
The United States, however, has refused to participate. It was one of only ten countries to oppose the General Assembly resolution authorizing the conference, further isolating itself from the global majority.
America has also taken unprecedented steps to limit Palestinian participation at the UN, denying visas to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his delegation.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the administration’s opposition, saying unilateral recognition of Palestine emboldens Hamas and undermines peace talks.
“We warned them that we thought that was counterproductive. We actually think it undermines negotiations, because it emboldened Hamas, and we think it undermines future prospects of peace in the region,” he said.
