Former Roots Party Presidential running mate Justina Wamae has revealed why middle-class individuals seek advice from bodaboda operators while making political decisions.
In a statement on Sunday, February 25, Wamae highlighted three types of Kenyans during the campaign period.
Among the groups mentioned is the middle class whom she says are informed politically and have access to resources but shy away from participating in politics.
As a result, she said this category of Kenyans end up suffering from the harsh decisions made by the elected officials.
“There’s you the middle class; you have access to social media, TV, Radio to listen to politicians who can make a difference, but you don’t want to involve yourself with politics,” said Wamae.
“So, you don’t vote but the government deducts housing levy from your salary and there’s nothing you will do about it,” she added.
The former roots party presidential running mate said middle-class Kenyans who vote during the elections often ask bodaboda operators to help them decide who to elect.
She said this group of Kenyans rely on information from the bodaboda operators to select a potential candidate and then go ahead to vote for the suggested politicians.
As such, Justina Wamae urged the middle class to change their stand on engaging in politics and elections of the country.
“Or you call Kimani wa nduthi akuambie ni nani ako ground umpigie kura. (Or you call Kimani a bodaboda operator to tell you who is popular so that you can vote for him/her),” explained Wamae.

BodaBoda & Mama Mboga
According to Wamae, the second category consists of the hustlers including the boda boda and mama mboga whom politicians interact with at the local level during campaign period.
She explained that the hustlers benefit directly during campaigns by receiving handouts from the politicians.
According to Wamae, boda boda operators are influenced by free fuels while the politicians buy the whole stock sold by the mama mbogas.
For this reason, she argues that the middle class should not make decisions based on the advice received from bodaboda guys since their needs are catered for during the campaigns.
“So, you (middle class) are voting in line with Kimani’s choice, yet his need was met during the campaigns period. Middle class must change or perish,” added Wamae.

Wealthy Kenyans
The third group consists of rich Kenyans whom she noted finance parties and politicians with the aim of benefiting once they takeover power.
“The wealthy who support a party financially because once in power they will benefit from policies such as those who are getting Affordable Housing Levy proceeds because they will build the houses,” said Wamae.
Wamae reminded Kenyans to vote for solutions to problems facing them and on the future of the nation.
