Rugby Sevens, as a sport, holds a dear place among Kenyans. For years, the sport has brought together Kenyans of different generations, with several events proving to be a perfect date site for couples.
From the famed Masaku Sevens to the Safari Sevens and the regular matches played at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, Rugby Sevens has earned a spot as fans’ favorite.
For couples, the Sevens is less about sport and more about connection through intensity.
The sport is a blend of speed, strength, joy, and heartbreak into high-energy minutes that demand attention.
Watching it together means reacting together, leaping from seats, holding hands in tension, laughing at missed tackles, and locking eyes while hugging after a dramatic try.
In the 2010s, the Masaku Sevens rose to fame due to the frenetic atmosphere and long list of entertainment activities featured. Hosted often at the Machakos County Stadium, the tournament aimed to promote the sport of rugby in the county.
Teams from across the country registered to participate in the tournaments, making them more than just a Machakos affair. Besides the stiff competition on the field, the tournament gave Kenyans fond memories.

From sizzling barbecue to fan zones with drinking and music from big names in Kenya, the tournament would offer an experience akin to big music concerts or festivals.
The Safari Sevens, an annual tournament held in Nairobi, has also cemented Kenya’s status as a rugby-loving nation. Teams from near and far register each year to compete in the tournament, often held as a precursor to major international competitions such as the HSBC Series.
In the 2025 edition, rapper Khaligraph Jones and Fathermoh were among the artists invited to perform.
Couples find themselves part of something bigger, screaming in unity with thousands of strangers.
Sevens crowds are known for costumes, music, dancing, and joyful chaos.
Between matches, couples dance in the stands, pose for photos, tease each other over team loyalties, and soak in the festival atmosphere.
