Drama ensued in Parliament following a heated exchange between Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino and Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagome.
The incident occurred during a Parliamentary Proceeding held on June 19, discussing the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
Babu Owino was making his submission regarding the bill on the floor of the house, expressing the mass discontent by the public which led to the Tuesday protests dubbed “Occupy Parliament”
“There was anger that was expressed yesterday on the streets coming from Kenyans and to be specific the Gen Z,” noted Babu.
The Embakasi MP noted that the Gen Z led revolution reminded him of several historic revolutions experienced in China, Russia and France.

Babu Owino Equates the Gen Z Protests to Historic Revolutions
“The Gen Z revolution that started yesterday reminds me of the Chinese Revolution, also known as the peasant or the Mama Mboga revolution that occurred in 1949, headed by a gentleman called Chairman Mao Zedong together with Deng Xiaoping,” noted Babu Owino.
He also cited the Russian Revolution known as the Bolshevik Revolution that took place in 1917 under the Leadership of Vlademir Lenin and Joseph Stalin.
“It further reminds me of the Bourbon Restoration in France which took place in the year 1789 and was headed by Maxmillien Robespierre together with Napoleon Bonaparte, the military Genius,” he said.
He noted that all these revolutions had something in common, they all advocated for “Equality and Fraternity”

Gatundu South MP Interrupts Babu Owino
It was then that he was interrupted by the Gatundu South MP who criticized him for speaking about things that lacked relevance to the issue being discussed in the house.
Kagombe noted that what Owino was doing was beating the drums of war which was unacceptable.
“The member for Embakasi East is beating drums of War, what the Member of Parliament is talking about is not relevant to the bill being discussed,” noted Kagombe.
“What he is doing is taking this opportunity to use this floor to beat drums of war in the country. We are at a very bad moment as a country, and we cannot allow that.”

Babu Owino Responds to Kagombe
The Gatundu South MP’s Remarks did not sit well with Babu Owino who responded by noting that he does not like responding to fools.
His comment followed an immediate reprimand from Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the House, who asked him to withdraw his comment.
“There are no fools in the house, in this house whether a member represents fishermen from the shores of the sea or lake, whether they represent herdsmen or whether a member is a professor, you are all honorable members of this house,” said Wetangula.
He further warned Babu Owino against making such remarks and stressed that respect begets respect.
“I want to warn you Babu Owino respect begets respect, you respect your colleagues, and they respect you back, there are no fools here, so can you withdraw and apologize”
