Sebastien Haller, a testicular cancer survivor, fired host Ivory Coast into the final of the Africa Cup of Nations after inspiring his teammates to a 1-0 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Ivory Coast’s Striker, currently playing for Borussia Dortmund, was Diagnosed with Cancer in 2022.
The news about his health sent shockwaves to his teammates and football fans across the world.
However, a resilient Haller managed to beat the cancer and returned to playing football in January 2023.
One year later, the former Ajax star was selected to play for his nation and ended up scoring the all-important goal that sent Ivory Coast to the AFCON 2023 final.

The 28-year- old striker was diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after joining Dortmund from Ajax in July 2022.

It was a moment of relief for Haller, who celebrated by pointing to the defiant ‘Cancer’ slogan emblazoned on his custom boots.
Reflecting on his ordeal, Haller acknowledged the gravity of his diagnosis but drew strength from the unwavering support of his medical team.
“The first day I didn’t know it was cancer,” he recalled.
“They just said ‘tumour’. But I am not medical. I didn’t know exactly what it meant. I just asked the doctor. ‘It is cancer, eh?’ He said ‘Yes’. So, I said, ‘Well just say it’,” Haller told the Media in 2023.
Despite the challenges he faced, Haller’s spirit and resilience have not only seen him overcome adversity but also emerge as a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless others battling similar circumstances.
