The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is facing heightened scrutiny after FIFA, in coordination with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), raised concerns about a recent resolution directing three senior officials to step aside.
FIFA has formally written to FKF seeking detailed clarification regarding its resolution requiring three senior officials to step aside on a provisional basis.
FKF President Hussein Rashid Mohammed, Acting Secretary General Dennis Gicheru, and nominated NEC member Abdullahi Yusuf Ibrahim have triggered questions over governance procedures and compliance with FKF statutes.
“It has come to our attention that, on or around 24 April 2026, the National Executive Committee of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) adopted a resolution pursuant to which the FKF President, Mr Hussein Rashid Mohammed, a nominated member of the National Executive Committee, Mr Abdullahi Yusuf Ibrahim, and the Acting General Secretary, Mr Dennis Gicheru, were required to step aside from their respective functions on a provisional basis (the Resolution),” the statement read.
According to the statement, FIFA is reviewing the matter to determine whether proper governance and statutory procedures were followed.

Hussein Defends himself From CHAN Scandal
Suspended Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has broken his silence after members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Federation passed a formal resolution calling for top federation officials to step aside over the alleged Ksh 42 million CHAN funds scandal.
In a briefing to the press on Saturday, April 25, Hussein Mohammed dismissed reports linking the federation to alleged financial impropriety in the organization of the CHAN tournament.
He maintained that the procurement of insurance for CHAN 2025 was conducted within the CAF framework and that the insurance was procured by CAF.
Hussein explained that insurance cover met the requirements of CAF and was intended to protect players, officials, staff, and stakeholders, in line with tournament standards and the signed host agreement.
