Olympian and Kenya’s sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala has missed out on a place in the men’s 100m final at the World Athletics Championships 2025.
Lining up in lane 3 for the second semifinal at 8:52 pm Japan time (2:52 pm Kenyan time).
Omanyala clocked 10.09 seconds to finish 5th in the race.
This means that he has to bow out of the championships at the semifinal stage, narrowly missing the chance to contest for a medal in the final.
Despite battling injuries, Ferdinand Omanyala put on a brave show at the World Athletics Championships.
Africa will still be strongly represented in the men’s 100m final at the World Athletics Championships 2025. Botswana’s Letsile Tebogowho secured first place, while Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi will also continue to the global stage.
South Africa will have double representation after seasoned sprinter Akani Simbine and teammate Gift Leotlela advanced as non-automatic qualifiers.

Furthermore, Team Kenya has expressed pride in his performance, stating that his determination is proof that the spirit of Kenyan athletics lives on.

Wamanyala will turn his focus to leading Kenya in the men’s 4x100m relay, where hopes remain high for a strong finish.
“Though he falls short of the final, he’ll lead Kenya in the 4x100m relay!” added Team Kenya.

Kenya’s Performance Highlights
Kenya has enjoyed many wins on the track at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, with several stars storming into the next rounds.
In the women’s 1500m, Faith Kipyegon, Dorcas Ewoi, and Nelly Chepchirchir lit powered their way through the Semi-Final 2, into the finals.
In the men’s 1500m, Reynold Cheruiyot and Timothy Cheruiyot advanced to the semifinals after impressive heat performances.
On the other hand, Mercy Oketch finished third in the women’s 400m heat, securing a place in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Edmund Serem thrilled fans by winning his race to secure a spot in the finals.
