Vinícius Júnior earned Brazil a 1-1 draw against Morocco in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group C match after he delivered the moment his side needed with a clinical equalizer.
The Real Madrid forward was also awarded the FIFA Man of the Match award for his display at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, June 13.
So far, it was the only group-stage match pitting two teams ranked inside FIFA’s top 10.
Brazil came into the tournament among the favorites to go far, while Morocco arrived with confidence after a strong run in Qatar four years ago. Both sides left the field with one point from Group C.
Morocco Stuns Brazil With Early Saibari Goal
Morocco started the match on a high note and opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Ismael Saibari found some space and neatly chipped over Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker.
The finish was composed, catching Brazil cold in a shaky opening spell. For a while, the Atlas Lions looked in control, pressing high and upsetting Brazil’s typical rhythm.
Vini Jr Responds With Clinical Equalizer
As many fans expected, Brazil responded quickly, and just 11 minutes later, Vinícius Júnior leveled things up.
Newcastle United’s midfielder Bruno Guimarães supplied the pass before Vini Jr danced past a defender and curled a powerful shot into the top corner.
The strike carried pace and precision, the kind of individual quality Brazil frequently depends on in tough moments.
The five-time world champions were back on level terms by the 32nd minute.

The first half ended 1-1, but Morocco had shown they belonged on the same pitch as Brazil.
Their organization and fast transitions tested the South Americans, who missed the creativity of the injured Neymar, who watched from the bench.

After the break, Brazil’s substitutes added new energy into the team. The team pushed forward more consistently and created chances, but Morocco’s defense stood strong.
Mohamed Ouahbi’s side made their own changes later and looked dangerous on the counter, yet neither team found a second goal. Alisson came up big with a double save late in stoppage time to preserve the draw.
Man of the Match
Vinícius Júnior won the FIFA Man of the Match Award after his overall display stood out. Beyond the goal, he troubled defenders with his dribbling and pace.
The result leaves Group C wide open. Brazil will next face Haiti on Friday, June 19. Morocco meets Scotland the same day.
Both teams will view those fixtures as opportunities to build on this point and advance to the round of 32.
Haiti and Scotland are currently playing their openers, with Scotland leading after the first 45 minutes. So far, the standings remain tight.

Morocco can take plenty of positives. Saibari’s goal and the team’s first-half dominance proved they can compete with the best.
Young holding midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi impressed in his appearance, showing poise on the ball and helping link defense to attack.
Captain Achraf Hakimi led from the back as expected, and the defensive structure that carried them far in 2022 remained difficult to break down.
The atmosphere at MetLife Stadium added to the occasion, with fans from both sides making noise and color throughout.
Celebrities and former stars in the stands added to the buzz around this World Cup opener for both teams.
