Cheruiyot Kipkirui’s journey into accounting is a story of perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering determination.
After completing high school, he moved to Nairobi with nothing but ambition and a dream to pursue further studies.
Financial constraints, however, quickly became a harsh reality. He took up a job as a security guard, working long shifts while keeping his eyes on the goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
To strengthen his skills, Cheruiyot enrolled in a computer course at the Kenya Institute of Management, staying mentally active while working physically demanding jobs.
Despite the challenges, his focus on accounting never wavered. In 2015, he decided to pursue a CPA qualification and sought admission to a top program at Strathmore University.

Driven by persistence, he navigated the admissions process and was eventually accepted.
The road ahead was far from smooth. Balancing night shifts with daytime classes left him little time to rest, and long daily walks between home, work, and school added to the exhaustion.
Unfortunately, his father’s cancer diagnosis forced him to step away from studies temporarily to provide care for him.

Well-Wishers Come to His Aid
Support from mentors, family, and well-wishers became his source of strength.
Contribution from his father, coupled with guidance from a mentor who directed him to financial aid, helped Cheruiyot reduce his tuition burden.
Later, friends and well-wishers organized a fundraiser, allowing him to return to Nairobi and resume studies with renewed focus.
Despite these interventions, he continued to face obstacles, including unreliable pay from security jobs and the logistical challenges of commuting long distances.

Failed Attempts
By the time Cheruiyot reached Section 5 of his CPA program, he encountered yet another hurdle: his final paper, Business Studies Analytics, required a stable internet connection and a laptop, both of which were difficult to access.
Exhaustion, distractions, and constant online work led to a failed attempt, while conflicts with his employer over time spent on studies cost him his job.
However, his determination did not falter. Returning once more to the Financial Aid Office, he secured a student assistant position that provided stability and resources, enabling him to finally complete his exams.
Through years of hardship—sleepless nights, juggling multiple jobs, caring for a sick parent, repeated school interruptions, and financial instability—Cheruiyot never abandoned his dream.
Today, as a Certified Public Accountant, his story stands as a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of persistence.
From humble beginnings as a security guard to achieving professional certification, Cheruiyot’s journey illustrates that no obstacle is insurmountable when matched with unwavering commitment and the right support.
