Several embassies have temporarily closed their Nairobi offices, adjusting their operations following the ongoing protests in Kenya over the high fuel prices.
Following the ongoing unrest, foreign embassies and high commissions, including the of Australia, Spain, and Ireland, have been forced to temporarily close their offices.
Further, several of the embassies have warned of road blockage and violence, urging the members of the public to reschedule their appointments.

Embassies Operation Adjustment Amid Protests
The Embassy of Ireland in Kenya announced the temporary closure of its offices on May 19.
“Due to ongoing local disruption, the public office of the Embassy will be closed.” Embassy of Ireland noted.
Further, the Australian High Commission has temporarily closed its offices due to the protests and has issued travel advice to the public, urging caution and monitoring the situation.
Due to the temporary closure, the commission directed the public to seek consular assistance from the Australian Government’s Consular Emergency Center for assistance during the closure.
In addition, the Embassy of Spain in Kenya made an announcement on May 19 about the closure of the Consular section today as the protests escalate.
The partial closure of the Consular section is expected to be lifted with normal operations resuming if the protests do not continue.
All members of the public who had scheduled appointments with the Embassy of Spain in Kenya on May 19 have been asked to reschedule, as the embassy prioritizes the safety of the public and its staff.
“In view of the current circumstances, the Consular Section will remain closed today. All appointments will be rescheduled. Hopefully, we will resume tomorrow. The well-being of our community and staff is our priority. Stay safe!” The Embassy of Spain in Kenya announced.

US Embassy Kenya Demonstration Alert
Despite the US Embassy not officially announcing a temporary closure of its offices in Nairobi due to the protest, the embassy issued a demonstration alert on May 18.
According to the embassy, it received reports of the national public transportation strike and road blockages on major roads in Kenya, with expected disruptions, and hence advised citizens to be cautious during the demonstrations.
Additionally, the embassy added that the public should monitor local media for updates on the strike before traveling for the next several days.
Further, the public was urged to avoid crowds, review their personal security plans, and ensure that others know their whereabouts and security status.
