David Wafula Wakoli is the current Senator for Bungoma County, elected in a by-election held on December 8, 2022, under the Ford Kenya party ticket.
The seat became vacant after former Senator Moses Wetangula resigned to become the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Wakoli won by securing 66,032 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mwambu Mabonga of UDA, who had 45,907 votes.

He attended St Peter Mumias Primary School for his primary education.

Career Background
Wafula Wakoli worked as a teacher. He was employed by the Teachers Service Commission in 2011 and posted to Friends Milima Secondary School in Tongaren, where he served until around 2013.
After leaving secondary teaching, he served as a board-of-management teacher, teaching at Bungoma High School and Baptist Secondary in Bungoma.
He also worked as a manager and personal assistant to Moses Wetang’ula, a senior politician, holding that role for over ten years until September 2022.

In December 2022, he successfully contested a by-election and was elected Senator for Bungoma County under the Ford Kenya party after securing 66,032 votes.
