The Board of Unga Group has announced the appointment of its new Managing Director.
In a notice dated Wednesday, June 7, 2025, the Board’s Chairman, Isabella Ochola-Wilson, announced the appointment of James Nyutu, effective July 1, 2025.
“The Board of Unga Group PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr James Nyutu as Group Managing Director, effective 1 July 2025,” read part of the notice.
Further, the Board congratulated Nyutu on his appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership as he takes on this new role to advance Unga’s strategic vision.
Nyutu has been serving in the role of Managing Director in an acting capacity since June 2024, when Joseph Malel Choge left the company.
Unga Appoints James Nyutu as Its New Managing Director
Nyutu previously held the position of Group Finance and ICT Director for Unga Group PLC and its subsidiaries.
The new Managing Director joined Unga in 2013 as Group Finance Director. Over the years, Nyutu has played a pivotal role in shaping the Group’s financial strategy and digital transformation initiatives.
As a seasoned management professional, Nyutu has over 20 years of experience across business strategy, financial management, corporate governance, and information systems.

He began his career in the financial services sector, holding various positions at Corporate Insurance, British American Insurance Company and NAS Airport Services before joining Unga.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi. His professional qualifications include Certified Public Accountant (K), Certified Public Secretary, Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) & Institute for the Management of Information Systems (IMIS).
