Duncan Mathenge Maina is a Kenyan politician and the serving Member of Parliament for Nyeri Town Constituency.
Early life and education
Duncan Maina Mathenge was born in Nyeri County, where he developed a keen interest in academics from an early age.
Between 1978 and 1981, he attended Giakanja Secondary School, where he successfully completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Determined to advance further, he joined Nyandarua High School in 1982, where he pursued his advanced secondary studies, completing the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) in 1983.
In 1984, Mathenge enrolled at the College of Health Professions, undertaking professional training that culminated in the award of a Diploma in 1987.
During this period, he also expanded his qualifications by enrolling at the City and Guilds Institute, where between 1986 and 1987 he obtained a Certificate, further sharpening his technical and professional skills.

Duncan’s first major entry into governance came with the advent of devolution in Kenya, when he joined the County Government of Nyeri.
Between 2013 and 2014, he served as a Political Advisor, a role in which he was responsible for providing strategic counsel to the county leadership on matters of policy, governance, and political affairs.
His dedication earned him promotion in 2015 to the position of Chief of Staff in the County Government of Nyeri. In this capacity, he coordinated administrative functions, supervised county staff, and supported the implementation of county policies and programmes.
His time as Political Advisor and Chief of Staff provided him with a solid foundation in leadership, decision-making, and constituency engagement, skills that would later define his parliamentary career.

Duncan Mathenge made his entry into elective politics during the 2022 general election, when he contested the Nyeri Town Constituency parliamentary seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket and secured victory.

In Parliament, Mathenge has been actively involved in both legislative duties and committee work.
In July 2023, he sponsored an amendment to the Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, which aimed to modernize government communication by restricting the use of print media for public notices and encouraging the adoption of digital platforms.
Mathenge’s growing influence was further affirmed in August 2025, when he was elected Vice Chairperson of the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee, assuming the position unopposed.
He also became an active member of the Health Committee, where he contributed to debates and oversight on healthcare delivery, and the Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy, where he has played a role in scrutinizing investments in critical economic sectors.
Beyond committee work, Mathenge chairs the Parliamentary Coffee and Tea Caucus, a bipartisan group dedicated to safeguarding the interests of Kenya’s farmers in the tea and coffee sectors.
