Kenya Met Lists Regions to Experience Heavy Rainfall as November Approaches

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has identified regions that will experience heavy rainfall as November approaches. In its seven-day weather forecast published on Monday, October 27, 2025, Kenya Met predicted that rainfall would occur over several parts of the country, including the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, the Coastal Region, parts of Southeastern lowlands, Northwest, and North Eastern Kenya. Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur in some of these areas.

Daytime (maximum) average temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western Kenya.

Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to fall below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and near Mount Kilimanjaro.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, which includes counties like Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok, morning rains are likely over a few places.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected across several locations, with nighttime showers possible in some areas, occasionally spreading to others. Isolated heavy rainfall events could occur in this region.

Turkana and Samburu counties, located in northwestern Kenya, may experience morning rains, along with afternoon and evening thunderstorms over a few areas.

Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Environs

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and its surroundings, mornings are likely to be cloudy with occasional rain over some places, giving way to sunny intervals.

Afternoon showers are expected in several locations, and nights are likely to be partly cloudy, although showers may occur over a few to several places. Isolated heavy rainfall events may also happen here.

Other counties within these regions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi County. In northeastern Kenya, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, morning rains along with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are likely over a few to several places.

Counties such as Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River, located in the southeastern lowlands, can expect morning, afternoon, and evening rains over some areas, occasionally spreading over larger regions.

 In the Coast region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as the coastal parts of Tana River, morning, afternoon, and evening showers are likely over a few locations, sometimes spreading to more areas.
