The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released its weather forecast after some parts of the country experienced rainfall on Friday, August 8, 2025.
According to Kenya Met, moderate to heavy rains will be observed in the country during the weekend in certain areas, intensifying on Saturday, August 9.
“Moderate (5–20mm) to heavy (>20mm) rains are already falling in parts of the country and will spread with stronger intensity on Saturday, 9th Aug 2025,” said the weatherman.
Kenya Met Issues 5-Day Weather Forecast
Additionally, in the forecast published on August 8, covering August 9 to August 13, 2025, rainfall is expected mainly in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and in northwestern Kenya.
Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the southeastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley.
Strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are forecasted over the Coast (including Kenya’s territorial waters), the southeastern lowlands, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya.
In the regions west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley itself, rain is expected in some areas during the morning within those regions, with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon across several places.

During the night, showers will be present in a few areas. Areas within these regions include counties like Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the northwestern region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, most of the forecast period will have sunny intervals, except on Saturday, August 9, and August 12, 2025.
In the afternoons, this region will experience showers and thunderstorms, with chances of showers in some places during the forecast period, except on Sunday, August 10, when there will be sunny intervals. During the night, most areas will be mostly cloudy.
Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Environs
Elsewhere, in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, it will be cloudy in the morning, breaking into sunny intervals, except on Saturday, August 9, when there will be showers in a few places.
In the afternoons, showers will occur in some areas throughout the forecast period. Areas in this region include counties like Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.

In the northeastern region, including counties like Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the forecast predicts sunny intervals in both the morning and afternoon, with partly cloudy conditions at night.
South Eastern Lowlands
Counties such as Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River County in the southeastern lowlands, will experience cloudy conditions in the morning, breaking into sunny intervals, with sunny afternoons and partly cloudy nights throughout the forecast period.
The Coast region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal parts of Tana River County, will have sunny intervals during the morning and afternoon, except on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, when there may be showers in some places, with partly cloudy nights.
