Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a weather forecast for the week of August 12 to 18, with intensified rainfall, scorching heat, biting cold, and strong winds expected in different regions. According to Kenya Met, residents in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and North-western Kenya should brace for increased rainfall intensity, including isolated storms.
“An increase in rainfall intensity is expected in several parts of the country, with isolated storms,” the statement read.
Counties likely to be affected include Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, and Tharaka-Nithi in the Central Highlands; Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia, and parts of Kisii and Nyamira in Western Kenya.
Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are also projected across parts of the Central Highlands and Western Kenya, along with the South-eastern Lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni, and the Rift Valley, notably in areas like Nakuru, Baringo, Kericho, and Narok.
Areas to Experience Temperatures Above 30°C and Below 10°C
On the other hand, daytime temperatures soaring above 30°C will dominate North-eastern and North-western Kenya, affecting counties such as Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, and Turkana.

Night-time temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in higher-altitude areas of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro, impacting regions like Nyandarua, Laikipia, and Kajiado.
“Night-time lows of below 10°C are likely in some parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and near Mt. Kilimanjaro.”
Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (approximately 46 km/h) are forecast to sweep across Coastal Kenya, the South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western regions.
This includes counties like Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Lamu, and inland areas already grappling with high temperatures.
Kenya Met advised the public to stay updated through official channels and take appropriate precautions, especially in storm-prone or wind-affected areas.
Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Environs
Elsewhere, in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, it will be cloudy in the morning, breaking into sunny intervals.

In the afternoons, showers will occur in some areas throughout the forecast period. Areas in this region include counties like Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
In the northeastern region, including counties like Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the forecast predicts sunny intervals in both the morning and afternoon, with partly cloudy conditions at night.

Kenya Met had released its weather forecast after some parts of the country experienced rainfall on Friday, August 8, 2025.
According to Kenya Met, moderate to heavy rains were observed in the country during the weekend in certain areas, intensifying on Saturday, August 9.
“Moderate (5–20mm) to heavy (>20mm) rains are already falling in parts of the country and will spread with stronger intensity on Saturday, 9th Aug 2025,” said the weatherman.
