The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its forecast for the week of July 8 to 14, 2025, indicating a mix of weather conditions across the country. According to the weatherman, the weather will range from rains and chilly nights to hot daytime temperatures and strong winds.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected over the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, as well as parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Western, and North-western Kenya.
Therefore, residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of localized flooding, slippery roads, and reduced visibility, especially in areas that have experienced previous rainfall.
The return of rains in Western and Rift Valley regions may benefit farmers engaged in off-season agricultural activities but also raises concerns about transport and accessibility in rural areas.

Cold Mornings and Cloudy Skies
On the other hand, the met department has forecast cold and cloudy conditions over the Highlands both east and west of the Rift Valley, including counties such as Nyeri, Murang’a, Eldoret, and Kericho.
Similar weather is expected in the South-eastern lowlands and some parts of the Rift Valley. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be cautious in the early morning due to possible fog and reduced visibility.
Meanwhile, daytime temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in North-eastern and North-western Kenya, including areas like Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, and Turkana.
The high heat may increase demand for water and raise the risk of heat-related health issues such as dehydration and heat exhaustion.
Consequently, residents in these regions to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and take special care of vulnerable groups such as the elderly and young children.

Chilly Nights to Continue
Night-time temperatures could drop below 10°C in the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, as well as parts of the Central Rift Valley and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Residents are advised to dress warmly at night and take necessary precautions to stay healthy, particularly those living in informal settlements.
The Met Department has also issued an advisory for strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (about 46 km/h) in coastal areas, Kenya’s territorial waters, and parts of the South-eastern lowlands and northern regions.
These winds may pose hazards to small boats and light aircraft. Fisherfolk and marine operators are urged to remain alert and consult updated marine forecasts.
