The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a five-day weather outlook for the period between April 17 and April, 21, 2026. Kenya Met published the weather outlook amid a decrease in the rain recorded in various parts of the country.
According to the forecast, Kenyans across the country should prepare for rainfall and a continuation of the cold season during this period.
Kenya Met announced that rainfall is expected to continue in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South Rift Valley, the Southeastern, Lowlands, the Coast and Northeastern Kenya.
The Weatherman added that isolated heavy rainfall events are likely to occur in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Southeast Lowlands and the Northeastern Kenya.
Kenya Met Releases 5-Day Weather Forecast for April 17 to 21
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, counties including Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot will experience morning rains in a few areas.
This will be followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms in several places throughoutthe period.
Kenya Met stated that daytime temperatures in these areas will range between 29°C and 31°C while nighttime temperatures will range between 10°C to 13°C.
In the Coast region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, light showers are expected in the mornings and afternoons across the five days, with nights remaining partly cloudy towards the beginning of next week.
Daytime temperatures will remain high, ranging between 32°C and 34°C, with warm nights of about 24°C to 25°C.

Meanwhile in North-Western Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu counties, the forecast shows a mix of sunny intervals and occasional rainfall.
Morning hours will have a chance of rain in a few places, while afternoons will mostly remain sunny, with isolated showers expected early in the week.
Nights will be partly cloudy, with maximum temperatures ranging between 37°C and 38°C, and minimum temperatures dropping to as low as 10°C.
Across the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, covering Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi counties, morning rains are expected in a few areas, especially at the start of the forecast period, followed by showers over several places in the afternoons.
Conditions are set to gradually improve to sunny intervals midweek, although occasional showers will persist in some areas.
Daytime temperatures will range between 27°C and 29°C, while night temperatures may fall to about 7°C in some locations.

Weather Forecast for North Eastern and South Eastern
For North-Eastern Kenya, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, rainfall is expected in the mornings over a few places during the early days of the period, followed by showers in the afternoons and nights.
Toward the end of the forecast window, conditions will ease into sunny intervals. Temperatures will remain high during the day, ranging between 36°C and 38°C, while nights will stay relatively warm at around 18°C to 19°C.
The South-Eastern Lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties as well as inland parts of Tana River County, will experience morning rains in a few areas, giving way to sunny intervals later in the period.
Afternoon conditions will alternate between sunny spells and scattered showers, particularly later in the week.
Daytime temperatures in the region will range between 30°C and 33°C, while night temperatures will remain warm at about 18°C to 22°C.
