The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory following flooding and silt deposition on sections of the Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok (B7) Road.
In a statement on April 16, 2026, KeNHA said the affected areas are at Kedong Ranch near Suswa.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists that this evening the Mai Mahiu – Suswa – Narok (B7) Road experienced flooding and silt deposition on several sections at Kedong Ranch near Suswa,” read part of the statement.
KeNHA said it has deployed teams to the ground and is working to reopen the affected sections as it continues efforts to restore normal operations.
Motorists have been warned against driving through flooded areas, with the Authority cautioning that vehicles risk being swept away or getting stuck in silt deposits.
Drivers have also been urged to strictly follow instructions from police officers and traffic marshals on site.
KeNHA Gives Alternative Routes to Motorists
The Authority further stated that the stretch between Naivasha Inland Container Depot (Km 14) and Suswa Ranch (Km 39) remains particularly risky due to ongoing heavy rains.
Motorists yet to commence their journeys have been advised to consider using the Narok–Njoro–Nakuru (B18) Road as an alternative route.
Other alternative routes include:
- Ngong–Suswa
- Nairobi–Naivasha–Longonot–Suswa
- Nairobi–Naivasha–Nakuru–Mau Narok–Narok
KeNHA assured road users that it is working around the clock to restore traffic flow and ensure safety along the highway.

Flood Prone Roads in Kenya
During heavy rainfall, several parts of the country have experienced road closures and traffic disruptions.
For example, the Marigat–Loruk Road has previously experienced prolonged closure at Km 29+800 after flooding caused by rising water levels in Lake Baringo rendered the section impassable.
The road was closed on August 21, 2025, and motorists were warned against using it due to safety risks.
Alternative route:
Marigat–Chemalingot–Loruk

Kaplong–Kisii Road
A section of the Kaplong–Kisii Road was previously closed on March 17, 2026, after water overtopped the Kisonoi River Bridge near Mugeni, between Sotik and Chebilat. Authorities said upstream runoff worsened the surge, making the road unsafe.
Alternative routes:
Kaplong–Sotik–Roret–Chebilat–Keroka
Kaplong–Sotik–Roret–Ikonge–Kisii
In Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), flooding has previously affected several roads, including Uhuru Highway, Kenyatta Avenue, Jogoo Road, Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, Mbagathi Way, Lusaka Road, and low-lying underpasses near the Nairobi Expressway.
According to mapping by the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration Programme, areas such as the CBD, Globe Roundabout, Gikomba, Eastleigh, and the Industrial Area remain exposed to flood risks due to their proximity to the Nairobi River.
