United States President Donald Trump has expressed interest in mediating another peace agreement, this time between Thailand and Cambodia, after previously helping to broker a truce between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, October 14, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan confirmed that Trump is expected to visit Malaysia on October 26, where he will witness the signing of a ceasefire deal between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.
“During the summit, we hope to see the signing of a declaration known as the Kuala Lumpur Accord between these two neighbors to ensure peace and a lasting ceasefire,” said the Foreign Minister.
Trump Hints at Initiating Peace Deal Between Thailand and Cambodia
Hasan added that the U.S. President had expressed interest in being part of the peace efforts.
The meeting will coincide with the ASEAN Summit, a biannual gathering of leaders from the 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who currently chairs ASEAN, has also confirmed Trump’s participation.
Hasan added that Malaysia and the United States will now facilitate a broader peace deal that requires both countries to remove landmines and heavy artillery from border zones to prevent future escalations.

Malaysia reportedly brokered an initial ceasefire on July 28, along the Thailand–Cambodia border, following a joint diplomatic effort by Anwar and phone consultations between Trump and the two leaders.
The Thailand–Cambodia conflict dates back to a century-old territorial dispute over land near the Preah Vihear Temple, an ancient Hindu site.
Although the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled in 1962 that the temple belongs to Cambodia, both countries continue to contest the surrounding 4.6-square-kilometer area.
Tensions heightened again in 2008 when UNESCO listed the temple as a World Heritage Site under Cambodia, sparking protests and sporadic armed clashes until 2011. Despite the ICJ reaffirming Cambodia’s sovereignty over the temple area in 2013, the border remains a flashpoint.
About First Phase of Peace Deal Between Israeli and Hamas
The July 28 ceasefire halted heavy fighting that killed at least 48 people and displaced thousands, though minor violations were later reported.
Trump’s efforts to secure peace between Thailand and Cambodia comes days after he secured a peace deal to end war in Gaza.
