Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has clarified his current political position amid speculations of a move to the opposition.
While addressing the media on Friday, August 1, 2025, Ali was asked whether he had shifted allegiance to the opposition. However, the legislator did not respond to the question directly.
“I am on the side of God and the people of Mombasa County and Nyali. If you really want to know my position, I’m on the side of the truth,” said the MP.
Ali, who has been out of the political limelight for the past nine months, said there has been a lot of speculation, with some people suggesting he is afraid of declaring his political stance.
Moha Jicho Pevu Clarifies Political Position
He explained that the reason for his silence was due to a knee injury he sustained during the East African Parliamentary Games, which affected his health and ability to engage in political activities.
“Some people say I’ve been quiet for the last nine months. Others think I’ve run away from politics. Some say I’m afraid to declare my position. But when you’re unwell, other things can wait. My health comes first. I underwent three knee surgeries—two in Kenya and one in India. I wasn’t in a position to say what Kenyans wanted to hear from me. I was very sick. I almost lost my life,” he said.

At the same time, Mohammed Ali insisted he has not been entirely silent, noting that he has remained vocal on critical national issues, including corruption and extrajudicial killings.
He specifically questioned why Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Langat has not been charged in court, despite having filed the complaint that led to the detention and eventual death of blogger Albert Ojwang while in police custody.
“I’ve spoken out about many issues, including extrajudicial killings, and I’ve said they must stop and should never be tolerated in this country. I’ve also addressed corruption,” the Nyali MP added.

He further reiterated that he will officially declare his political stance at the appropriate time, and it will be based on the will of the people. He affirmed that he will always stand with the truth and with the people.
Mohammed Ali is among a growing list of Kenya Kwanza MPs who have recently criticized President William Ruto’s government, despite being members of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. This has fueled speculation that he could have distanced himself from the President’s camp.
