Only three points separate 13th-placed Mara Sugar, who have 36 points, from 17th-placed Murang’a Seal, who have 34 points. Bidco United are 18th with 31 points, making the final matchday critical.
The league will relegate the bottom three teams (16th, 17th, and 18th) directly to the National Super League, with no playoff for 16th this season due to the planned reduction to a 16-team league in 2025/26.
The teams in the relegation battle are Mara Sugar, Talanta FC, Posta Rangers, Murang’a Seal, Nairobi City Stars and Bidco United in respective order.
The Relegation Battle
Bidco United
Bidco United have only 6 wins from the 33 games played so far and are facing an almost certain relegation unless they win their final game and multiple results go their way.
Bidco’s inconsistent campaign has left them vulnerable, with recent results offering little hope. They face Sofapaka FC at home on Sunday, who are mid-table and are a tough opponent despite having less to play for.

With only 8 victories in 33 matches, Muranga Seal have relied heavily on draws (10) but have conceded 41 goals, a statistic that could prove costly in the final decision.
Muranga Seal face Talanta FC in a crucial home match against an opponent who has not lost in their last 6 home games.
A win against Talanta would lift them above Talanta and potentially out of the relegation zone, depending on other results.
A draw or loss could see them relegated if City Stars or Posta Rangers win their matches.
Nairobi City Stars
Nairobi City Stars sit at position 16 with 34 points, level with Murang’a Seal and Posta rangers but with a one-goal goal difference advantage over Murang’a Seal and a two-goal disadvantage over Posta Rangers.
City Stars snapped a six-match winless streak with a vital 3-2 win over Mara Sugar and followed it with a 2-0 victory against KCB on June 15, 2025, at SportPesa Arena, Murang’a, boosting their survival hopes.
These results, including a shock 2-1 win over title-chasing Gor Mahia earlier, show their fighting spirit despite a tough season.
Nairobi City Stars face Mathare united at home on the final matchday. Mathare, safely mid-table, could be less motivated, but their rivalry with City Stars adds unpredictability.
A win is essential for Nairobi City Stars to survive being relegated, and must hope at least one of Murang’a Seal, Posta Rangers or Talanta FC lose.
City Stars have been inconsistent, with losses like 1-0 to Talanta and draws against Murang’a Seal (0-0) exposing their lack of firepower.
Their “Simba wa Nairobi” moniker reflects their pride, but relegation would be a setback after years of top-flight football.
Posta Rangers
Posta Rangers sit 15th on the table with 34 points, level with Nairobi City Stars and Murang’a Seal, but only ahead on goal difference.
Rangers’ fate rests on their final match against Bandari FC in Mombasa. It is a daunting task, as Bandari have proven tough opponents at home.
However, Rangers will be relying on the tactical experience of head coach Sammy ‘Pumzo’ Omollo, who has previously guided teams through similar high-stakes battles.
A win for Rangers guarantees safety, regardless of the results from other matches. A draw could be enough but only if Murang’a Seal or City Stars fail to win.
A loss would see them relegated if either of the mentioned rivals secures three points.
Talanta FC
Talanta FC finds itself in a tense fight for survival in the FKF Premier league, currently sitting in 14th place with 35 points, just one point above the relegation zone.
Talanta FC are away to face Muranga Seal who are also in the relegation battle on the final matchday.

This match is a direct relegation decider, as only one point separates Talanta from the trio of Murang’a Seal, City Stars, and Posta Rangers (all on 34 points).

Mara Sugar FC
FKFPL debutants Mara Sugar FC made a promising start to the campaign but now find themselves 13th in the league with 36 points and two points above the drop zone.
Their recent 1-0 win over Shabana FC was a major boost, lifting them out of immediate danger and a win or draw against Kariobangi Sharks in the final matchday on Sunday should be enough to secure safety.
A loss, however, could see them relegated if teams below them (Talanta, City Stars, Posta Rangers, or Murang’a Seal) win and overtake them on points or goal difference.
