Julius Mawathe Musili is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Embakasi South.
Early life and education background
Julius Mawathe Musili was born in 1963 and grew up in Nairobi, where he began his formal education.
Between 1976 and 1979, Mawathe attended Parklands Boys High School for his O-Level studies.
After his secondary education, he pursued further training in business and technology at the American Trades Institute, where he studied from 1990 to 1991 and graduated with a Diploma in Computerized Business Administration.
His pursuit of higher education later led him to the United States, where he joined the University of Texas at Dallas in 2001. He undertook studies in business and successfully completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2006.
This blend of local and international academic exposure provided him with a solid foundation in both technical and managerial disciplines.

Professional career
Julius Musili Mawathe began his professional journey in the United States shortly after completing his studies.
Between May 1990 and February 1993, Mawathe worked at Dallas County Community College in Texas as an Assistant Accountant in the Cash Office.
During this period, he was also seconded to a sub-committee on decongestion in North Dallas from May 1990 to February 1992, where he contributed to local administrative solutions.
In March 1993, he joined the LeCroy Centre for Educational Telecommunications in Dallas as a Senior Software Trainer, a position he held until December 1993.
His career advanced further when he returned to Dallas County Community College, where he served as Senior Manager of Technology Support from January 2004 to December 2006.
Upon returning to Kenya, Mawathe assumed a political support role within the Orange Democratic Movement-Kenya (ODM-K), serving as Deputy Director and Logistics Officer from April 2007 to July 2008.
He later joined Telkom Kenya in August 2008, where he worked as the Head of Customer Care until August 2012.

Since May 2013, Mawathe has been serving as the Deputy Chairman of the Centre for Multiparty Democracy–Kenya (CMD-Kenya), a role he continues to hold alongside his parliamentary responsibilities.
Political Career
Mawathe formally entered elective politics in 2017, when he contested the Embakasi South parliamentary seat on a Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya (WDM-K) ticket.
In April 2019, a court nullified his 2017 victory following a petition filed by his rival, Irshadali Sumra, and a by-election was called for April 5, 2019, in which Mawathe once again defended his seat on the WDM-K ticket.
During his time in Parliament, Mawathe has served in several committees, contributing to national debates and legislative development.
He has been a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Departmental Committee on Energy, Communications, and Information, where he has engaged in oversight and policy review.
