Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has addressed reports of quitting the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
While speaking at a radio interview on Monday April 21 in Hot 96, Babu said the only time he will leave ODM is when the party will no longer need his services.
“If ODM does not need me anymore, I will be ambitious,” Owino said.
At the same time, Babu Owino argued that he has been loyal to the ODM party since his days as SONU student leader.
Babu Owino Says He Will Leave ODM If the Party Asks Him To
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and its leader, Raila Odinga, by recounting a near-death experience during an attack in Soi. This incident occurred while they were attending the funeral of Mzee Kibor, alongside Raila and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, during which Odinga’s helicopter was pelted with stones. He dismissed any claims suggesting that he has abandoned the party.

Babu also reiterated that he will remain loyal to the party and has not fallen out with the former Prime Minister.
For a while, Babu Owino has been seen to differ from the party — a stance he has openly expressed since Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja began working with the ODM party and particularly with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Embakasi East MP Weighs In on Raila’s Support for Sakaja
Sakaja’s relationship with the former Prime Minister has been interpreted as the former Prime Minister supporting Sakaja’s 2027 gubernatorial bid, a race that Babu is also interested in.
However, the Embakasi East legislator has, in numerous interviews, expressed a different view regarding Odinga’s perceived support for Sakaja’s 2027 re-election bid. He argued that the Governor has never supported Odinga in any of his presidential campaigns.

During an interview on February 12, Babu stated that Sakaja has never wished Raila well throughout his political journey.
He recounted how Sakaja actively campaigned against Raila in the past four general elections.
According to Babu, Sakaja supported the late President Mwai Kibaki, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and current President William Ruto — all of whom contested against Raila.
At the interview he also claimed that Sakaja supporting Raila’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship was because President Wiliam Ruto did not front an alternative candidate.
