Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has called for the arrest and prosecution of an Alliance Girls School teacher who was accused of grooming sexual liaisons with students.
Speaking at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secodary School, Nandi County, Bitok reiterated that the government policy has zero tolerance on teachers-students’ romantic relationships.
“We are not going to condone any behaviour where teachers or any other stakeholders in school take advantage of our children. We want to condemn with the strongest words possible those behaviours of teachers or any staff members who want to take advantage of our children sexually,” said Bitok.
Additionally, he stated that the government will not tolerate such behavior. He affirmed that the teacher in question will face punishment and interdiction and confirmed that they have engaged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the teacher is arrested.

Further, he said that this is not an issue limited to Alliance Girls High School, but a concern affecting any school in the country, stressing that such behavior must come to an end.
This comes after revelations by Africa Uncensored journalist and Alliance Girls alumna Christine Mungai, who disclosed that a teacher named Peter Ayiro had engaged in interactions with students and former students that crossed emotional and, in some cases, physical boundaries.
Earlier, on July 10, 2025, Alliance Girls’ alumni gathered outside the school in protest, despite a heavy police presence. The alumni body said that their previous demands to the school and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have not been met.
“We are here to ask why some of our demands have not yet been met, despite our earlier statement,” said one of the alumnae.

The former students raised some demands directing them to the school, TSC and Ministry of Education.
In their demands, they stated that they want the following:
- Immediate removal of Mr Peter Ayiro from all roles and responsibilities within any education setting, and especially Alliance Girls High School permanently.
- A public statement of accountability from the Board of Management, Teachers Service Commission, and the Ministry of Education.

- An independent, survivor-informed investigation into how this abuse was allowed to continue, including the roles played by teachers, principals, and BOM members.
- Temporary relief from duty for all staff named in safeguarding failures pending the outcome of investigations.
- Transparent safeguarding reform in Alliance Girls and similar institutions, including functioning reporting channels that are not tied to the school, trauma-informed care, and survivor support.
The Africa Uncensored article revealed that despite sexual abuse allegations against Peter Ayiro, he remained in his position and continued to play a prominent role within the school and its Christian Union (C.U.).
“What made me look deeper was a specific revelation: that in 2021, news of an extramarital affair between the teacher and a former student had reportedly reached the leadership of the teacher’s church community, pastored by his father,” read part of the article.
