On whom can apply for the oppocard, Pius, another employee of the embassy said Kenyans holding degree certificates and individuals with skilled labour are eligible.
“Basically, it’s for qualified professionals who are looking to take up a job in Germany. So, the Oppocard is actually targeted at two groups of people: If you have a professional or academic degree that is fully recognized in Germany or you are considered a skilled worker you can directly apply for the card,” Pius said.
He explained that those without fully recognized qualification must score at least six points in the grading system of the Oppocard.
“For example, you get points for German and English language skills, professional experience and if your qualification is in high demand in Germany. You can do a self-test on how many points you can score on make-it-in-germany.com,” Alicia said.

Advantages for Applicants from Kenya
The Embassy said Opportunity Card is designed to change the requirement that applicants from non-EU countries must show a permanent employment contract or be considered a recognized skilled worker in order to work in Germany.
It explained that the complicated entry procedures hinder the immigration of qualified workers from abroad.
Applicants from non-EU countries are guaranteed a 12-month stay in Germany through the Opportunity Card in order to look for a job.
You can apply for the Opportunity Card either at the Foreigners’ Registration Office or at the competent German mission abroad in your country of origin (for example at the German Embassy).
