Airtel Africa Foundation has announced scholarships for a training program targeting Kenyans between the ages of 14 and 40.
In a statement, the foundation noted that the program dubbed Tech For Her is open for women who want to gain high-demand digital skills for free.
The initiative, also running in Zambia and Uganda, aims to equip participants with practical expertise in Linux Administration, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics.
Further, the foundation noted that the training is designed to give young women an advantage, opening pathways to competitive tech careers both locally and internationally.
According to UNESCO, women represent only 30% of tech professionals in sub-Saharan Africa, with 2–8% holding software development roles.
Annika Poutiainen, a member of the Foundation’s committee, said the program is designed to nurture the next generation of innovators.
“At Airtel Africa, we are actively working to advance women in technology roles, and we are committed to a future where young women can be at the forefront of innovation.
This program will create a pipeline of female tech leaders who will help unlock vast digital opportunities both at home and abroad. “

What Does the Airtel Africa Program Entail?
The training will be delivered online over a five-week intensive period in partnership with technology education provider Tertiary DNS.
It is part of Airtel Africa Foundation’s mission to promote digital inclusion, with an intentional focus on narrowing the gender gap in the tech industry.
Tech For Her program offers a learning model that accommodates different schedules. Working professionals can attend weekend classes, while non-working participants have access to weekday sessions.
In total, learners will commit to over 100 hours of instructor-led and hands-on training.
Graduates will also receive 12 months of continued skills development support, keeping them updated on emerging technologies and trends.
Top-performing participants who will score 90% and above will also be considered for internship opportunities at Airtel Africa and receive structured mentorship from experienced technology industry leaders.

Who Can Apply
The Kenyan intake is open to women who are citizens aged 18–40 and have basic digital literacy.
They must also have at least a national diploma in Science and Technology or an equivalent qualification (higher education credentials are welcome).
In line with its commitment to inclusivity, the Foundation will reserve 30% of training slots for women from rural and underserved areas, and 40% of seats will be allocated to applicants from low-income households.

How to Apply
Eligible candidates can apply through Airtel Kenya’s official website, where the country-specific Tech For Her application portal is live.
However, applicants will need to provide:
- Academic qualification documents
- A short statement of interest
- Proof of basic digital literacy
The applications will close on August 21, 2025. Early submissions are encouraged, as spaces are limited and demand is expected to be high.
