Long-distance transport company Ena Coach has issued a statement addressing public concerns over the welfare of its driver, Tom Ondieki, who was involved in an accident while on duty on February 17, 2025.
In a statement on November 14, Ena Investments Ltd stated that the accident that happened at the Gwoyo area left Ondieki with severe injuries that later resulted in an amputation.
According to the company, Ondieki had worked with Ena Investments for seven months and was described as a dedicated and professional employee.
Ena Coach Outlines Steps Taken in Driver Compensation Dispute
Ena Couch said it immediately initiated steps to support him after the accident, including filing an insurance claim upon his discharge from the hospital.
The employer noted that all its workers are covered under a comprehensive insurance policy that provides protection against work-related accidents.
Ena Investments further clarified that an offer of compensation was made to Ondieki following the insurer’s assessment, but he disputed the offer and directed the company to channel any further communication through his lawyer.
The statement further noted that the company had also sought the intervention of the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS) to facilitate statutory compensation procedures.
Ondieki was reportedly issued the required documents, which the company said had already been processed and were awaiting approval from his attending doctor.
Additionally, Ena Coach indicated that its efforts to maintain communication with Ondieki have at times been met with limited cooperation but noted that employee welfare remains a top priority.

Other Employees Got Compensated
The company cited previous cases where other staff members have successfully received compensation after workplace incidents.
Ena has urged Tom to continue cooperating with both the employer and the relevant authorities to ensure the matter is concluded fairly.
“We kindly urge Mr. Ondieki to continue cooperating with our offices and the relevant authorities so that this matter can be resolved in the fairest manner possible. Our commitment to the well-being of our employees is unwavering, and we will continue to act in good faith to ensure all procedures are followed and rights are upheld,” read the statement.

Ondieki Pleads for Help
Tom Ondieki took to social media in a video appealing to Kenyans to help pressure Ena Coach to compensate him.
In the video, the former employee claimed he has struggled since February to get assistance from his employer.
“I have been seeking compensation from Ena Coach since February. I risked my life trying to save people during the accident. No one else was injured — I was the one who got hurt,” Tom Ondieki said
The video, which circulated online, sparked widespread criticism of the company.

I fail to understand why long distance transport companies still behave and operate with “matatu sector” mindset in this modern world.? If a driver is employed by that big company, the contract signed must cover terms of office, health, welfare, financial, safety and retirement benefits !!
No need to wake up when accident has occurred when the employer or management start worrying trends with pretences to deter the employee from getting his rights.
