On September 9, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) would resume.
The exercise targets young people who have recently turned 18, as well as citizens who have not yet registered or wish to update their voter information.
“Eligible Kenyans may register at any IEBC Constituency Office, except in areas currently holding by-elections. Available services include new voter registration, transfer of registration to a new location, correction or update of voter details, and verification of registration status,” said IEBC Chairperson Ethekon.
Transferring your polling station in Kenya involves updating your voter registration details with the IEBC to reflect your preferred voting location.
This process can only be done during the official voter registration or revision of the register periods, which are announced by the IEBC ahead of elections.
According to an announcement made by the electoral body on October 10, a total of 20,754 new voters were registered, while 3,207 voters transferred their registration.
IEBC Process of Changing Voter Polling Station
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
1. Confirm Your Current Registration
- Before applying for a transfer, check where you are currently registered.
Visit the IEBC voter verification portal and enter your ID details. The portal will display your current polling station, ward, constituency, and county.
2. Visit an IEBC Registration Centre
To transfer your polling station, go to:
- Your current registration center, or
- The IEBC constituency office where your preferred new polling station is located.
Bring your original national ID card or valid Kenyan passport — the same document you used during registration.

- Once approved, your voter registration record will be updated in the IEBC system.
Important Details Every Voter Should Know
Every voter seeking a transfer should note that the process is free of charge and must be done in person.
The commission does not process polling station transfers online or through third parties.
The process is completed at an authorized registration or constituency office.
