Ruweida Mohamed Obo is a Kenyan politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Lamu East Constituency.
She was elected in the August 2022 general election, becoming the first woman to be elected MP for Lamu East.
Ruweida is also recognised for her professional background as a commercial pilot, having worked as a line captain at Mombasa Air Safari for 13 years before entering politics and having flown prominent politicians in the country.

Ruweida Mohamed began her academic journey at Ngomeni Primary School, completing her KCPE in 1993.
She then proceeded to Coast Girls High School, where she earned her KCSE in 1997.
A passion for aviation followed: she obtained her Private Pilot License (PPL) from the Kenya School of Flying in October 2002, apprenticed in aeronautical engineering from November 2002 to January 2005 at Kijipwa Aviation, and secured both a Commercial Pilot License (PA-28) in 2005 and a Multi-Rating (PA-34 Seneca) in 2006.
Later, she expanded her qualifications by earning a BSc in Aviation Management from the University of Nairobi (completed in 2017), and a Bachelor of Business Management from Moi University between 2018 and 2022.
Career life
Ruweida Mohamed built a distinguished aviation career before entering politics.
From 2000 to 2005, she worked as a pilot at Kijipwa Aviation, flying aircraft including the PA-28 and C-150.
She then joined Mombasa Air Safari, serving as First Officer (2006–2014) and later Line Captain (2008–2014), amassing over 2,000 to 3,000 flight hours.
In 2015, she founded Obo Aviation, where she has served as Captain and Chief Executive Officer since then.
Simultaneously, she was a Board Director at LAPFUND between 2015 and 2017.
Between 2017 and 2022, she served as the Lamu County Woman Representative, and later in 2022, she was elected as an MP.

In parliament, she is noted for sponsoring legislative initiatives such as the Wildlife Conservation and Management (Amendment) Bill in 2025.
