It was a light moment on Tuesday, May 17 in Nyeri County during the burial of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua’s elder brother, when Gachagua’s long-time friend approached him and demanded a Ksh. 1,000 from him.
The Kenya Kwanza running mate, who was in the process of addressing grievers, signaled for the man to be allowed to reach him amid security attempts to stop him.
“Wachana naye, kuja tu,” Gachagua paused his speech and engaged the man in a short conversation, dipped his hands into his pocket and handed him a note. “Anasema nimpange mapema kuna mahali anataka kwenda,” the MP said, much to the hilarity of the congregants.
The MP further reported that the man identified as Muchangi, was a long-time friend with whom he made a pact with. The pact made two decades ago was that whenever their paths crossed Gachagua would give Mutangi Ksh. 1,000.
“We agreed with Muchangi over 18 years ago that whenever we meet I give him a Ksh. 1,000. Now he is telling me he has been waiting since 7am and he wants to go,” he added.
Furthermore, after receiving the money, Mr. Muchangi walked away joyfully as the crowd commended the act by the legislator.
