Nine suspects have been arrested and seven riffles recovered in an ongoing security operation in Kom area, Merti Sub-County, in Isiolo County. The Nine apprehended are suspected to be members of a militia group.
The successful raid happened on Wednesday, May 25 by a multi-agency team which have been carrying out investigations in the arear for a month now.
The weapons recovered include; six AK47 rifles, an FN firearm, 16 magazines, a pair of jungle police uniforms and several rounds of ammo.
According to officials of the multi-agency team, the operation is worthwhile as cases of insecurity in the area have greatly reduced over the past few days.
Police spokesperson Bruno Shioso reported that they are in the process of interrogating suspects to get more information from them about their operations.
Moreover, this recovery comes days after the government ordered an immediate ban on unlicensed mining activities in the region.
The security operation to flush out criminals hiding in the mines in the area is still ongoing and will last 30 days as per the guidelines given by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, with the option of an extension.
Furthermore, the operation will run in tandem with a disarmament exercise targeting illegal guns and ammunition. As at now, almost two dozens of arms have been recovered.
