A Magistrates Court in Ngong, Kajiado County, granted former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko 21 days to appear before court and react to a case filed against him by a woman who is seeking Ksh. 450,000 per month as child support.
The woman claims to be the former Nairobi Governor’s ex-lover. According to her, Mike Sonko has abandoned his parental duty of taking care of their 15-year-old daughter.
Ngong Senior Principal Magistrate Pamela Achieng asked Sonko’s lawyers to submit a response before the hearing set for June 23, 2022. This came after Sonko’s advocates Mbichire and Co Advocates made an application seeking to have an extension of time to prepare their defense.
According to court documents, the former governor’s ex-lover is demanding monthly support to cater for food, shopping, rent, security, salon costs, clothing, house help, entertainment, medical insurance, education, transport and utilities. She further wants Sonko to pay school fees for the minor as well as school-related expenses such as uniforms, pending the outcome of the case.
On Tuesday, last week Mike Sonko came out to mock the suit accusing the woman of blackmail.
“Huyu dame hutumia watoi kublackmail ndio apewe doo ya kudunda 24/7. I’ll give the kid the best of what life has to offer,” “Hata mtoto awe si wangu amlete tu kwangu ata sai nitamlea vizuri. Na pia madem wengine mkifeel hamuezi cope up na kulea watoi msiwadhulumu kivyovote, waleteni kwangu nitawalea.” Sonko stated.
