National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei now says police should wear body cameras.
According to Shollei, this will help in monitoring police interactions with members of the public.
Shollei says some police officers receive bribes and sometimes delay producing suspects in court.
“Police are the ones bringing remandees to court.Sometimes they delay or they receive bribes.
“This can be cured by ensuring that police officers wear body cameras so that they can be monitored to see what they are doing at all times when they interact with the members of the public.
“That is where the country should go to deal with rogue police officers delaying or sabotaging the dispensation of justice,” Shollei said.
Shollei recalled how during her tenure as the Judiciary Chief Registrar she set up Faini Chap Chap which increased revenue generated from traffic offenses ten-fold.
“We set up the Kibera and Milimani law courts to deal with traffic offenses.
She says with Faini Chap Chap money from traffic offenses rose from Ksh50,000 to Ksh500,000 per day.
“Money went directly to the court instead of being paid to police officers,” she added.
