Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is in the UK on a mission to push for the implementation of the Nairobi Railway City project.
According to Mudavadi, the Atkins Group made a presentation and proposed a vision for the Nairobi Railway City.
The ambitious initiative is proposed to become a cornerstone project within the framework of the Kenya-UK strategic Partnership.
“Drawing inspiration from Nairobi’s recent and successful hosting of the Africa Climate Summit, the presentation expounded upon strategies for the sustainable development of the project, emphasizing its environmentally conscious aspects,” Mudavadi said.

“A standout feature of the presentation revolved around the revitalization of the Nairobi Railway Station into a pivotal transportation hub,” he added.
Mudavadi visit to London
Mudavadi flew to London for a three-day official visit to highlight Kenya as the premier investment hub for Eastern Africa and beyond.
In his visit, he toured the Kings Cross railway system where he focused on harnessing valuable lessons on efficiency, affordability, accessibility, and sustainability.
Consequently, he held talks on his second day of the visit in London with Rail Minister Huw Merriman and the Trade representative Hon. Theo Clarke.
In the meeting, UK praised the Kenyan government on its interest in this project which will have a positive impact on the country’s economy.
What is Nairobi Railway City?
Nairobi Railway City is an iconic nerve Centre for the Nairobi Multimodal Transport System.
Broadly, it is detailed as a multi-media urban development situated within 425 acres between Haile Sellasie Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Landhies Road and Bunyala Road.
The Railway city is set to incorporate mixed use commercial developments, hotels and intermodal facilities.
In December 2022, the government released the master plan of the proposed Nairobi Railway City, which seeks to expand and decongest the Central Business District.
In the same month, the ground-breaking ceremony was conducted for the project at the Nairobi Central Railway station.

Nairobi Railway City objectives
Among other objectives, the Nairobi Railway City seeks to increase both the City and National Government revenues.
Furthermore, the Nairobi Railway City is set to reform the area around Nairobi Central Railway Station into a modern Railway City.
It is also projected to create a transport Hub with muti-media and modern Transport Facilities
Additionally, one of the government visions for the Nairobi Railway City is for it to allow the expansion of the Nairobi CBD to the South.
