ODM Governor Splashes Ksh350K on Advert to Praise Ruto

Turkana governor Jeremiah Ekamais Lomorukai has splashed over Ksh300,000 on a newspaper advert to praise President William Ruto following his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA in New York. 

In the advert, the governor, elected on the ODM party ticket, lauded Ruto on his speech at UNGA and on the diplomatic ties set between Haiti and Kenya.

He directly addressed President Ruto lauding the Government of Kenya on its prompt move as the first nation to lead the humanitarian Mission in Haiti.

“I write this note to laud the Government of the Republic of Kenya’s prompt move as the first Nation to lead the Humanitarian Mission in Haiti, the second oldest republic in the Western Hemisphere” The letter addressed to the President read in part.

Furthermore, the governor noted that in Ruto’s address at UNGA, the United States President Joe Biden acknowledged President Ruto and Kenya for demonstrated unequivocal willingness to serve as the lead nation of a United Nation backed security support mission.

Jeremiah Ekamais stated that he is “filled with pride of being a Kenyan” as he followed the UNGA 77 from Oxford UK where he was participating in the REACH International Conference on water security.

“As a proud Kenyan, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary commitment President Ruto has signaled to the rest of the World,” Jeremiah Ekamais went on to say.

He concluded, “I am optimistic that Kenya has the potential capacity to not only address its domestic challenges, but also exercise leadership in regional and international affairs.

A case in point is its willingness to lead a possible United Nations-backed multinational security force to help the Haiti police fight escalating humanitarian crisis.”

Haiti moves Turkana Governor 

What’s more, as of December 2022, at least 5.2 million people in Haiti needed humanitarian assistance.

The Caribbean country has been facing challenges related to violent gangs, political instability, violence, economic and climate shocks, hunger, and poverty.

In his speech, U.S President Joe Biden praised President William Ruto for stepping up to lead peacekeeping efforts in Haiti.

On his part, President Ruto urged the United Nations Security Council to formally back a security peace keeping mission to Haiti, which Kenya has shown a willingness to lead, saying the Caribbean country deserves better from the world.

“Inaction is no longer an option. As we mobilize to show up for Ukraine, and countries that have experienced the devastating impact of climate shocks including Libya, Morocco, and Hawaii, we must not leave Haiti behind” President Ruto remarked in his speech at the UN General assembly on Thursday.

“The situation in Haiti is not fictional; Haiti is bleeding, and the world cannot afford to look the other way. I believe the Kenya’s decisive move is inspiring the rest of the countries to follow suit as the UN galvanizes the international coalition to support this crucial effort.” The Turkana governor noted on the situation in the Carribean country.

Kenyan Police to Haiti 

Again, commended the 1,000 Kenyan police officers who may be selected to help train, assist Haiti police, and restore normalcy. He praised these officers ahead of their deployment and urged the President to call on Kenyans, despite their political affiliations to provide the officers moral support as they have their work cut out for them.

In addition, the governor stated that he is optimistic that Kenya has potential capacity to not only address its domestic challenges but also exercise leadership in regional and international affairs.

“Once again, I applaud the Kenya potential global role under your leadership,” the Turkana governor concluded his address to President Ruto.

Turkana County poverty rate

According to a KNBS report published in 2021, Turkana County is one of the counties with the highest poverty headcount estimated at 77.7 percent.

The poverty index report by KNBS went on to state that 436,000 out of 955,000 Turkana County residents live in hardcore poverty.  However, according to the report, the numbers of poor people in Turkana County has decreased by 0.7 percent since 2019.
