Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has sued her husband on allegations of cruelty and abuse.
In a petition seen by The Kenya Times, the CS through her lawyer Clarence Ombogo accused her spouse of treating her and her children with cruelty.
According to the petition, Soipan’s children and domestic workers have been living in fear due to the threats and abuse meted on them by the husband.
Moreover, in an affidavit filed at the Nairobi Children’s Court, Tuya noted that they lived together from 2013 until 2020 when they parted ways.
The separation saw Tuya proceed to live with their two children while the spouse, reportedly, went on a separate path.
However, Tuya now claims that the man has refused to take care of the children and instead left the burden of providing for the minors to her.
In particular, the CS claimed that the man had never contributed towards the children’s school fees during and after their relationship.

Tuya narrated her tribulations in their relationship noting that the defendant was abusive and cruel.
At one point, she alleged, the husband denied paternity for their two children and even demanded a DNA test.
“Since the onset of their relationship and split on October 2020, the Defendant has failed to, refused and neglected to pay any share of school fees,” part of the affidavit read.
Tuya Demands Ksh400,000 Child Support
In her prayers to the court, the Environment CS asked the court to issue a protection order in favor of herself, the children, and domestic workers against the husband.
Further, Tuya asked the court to grant her full custody of their two children citing the alleged abuse and negligence of the man.
She also requested that incase the court found it reasonable to grant the man limited visitations to the children, there should be supervision from herself or a trusted adult.
According to her, failure to take that step will subject their children to further suffering and abuse.
Additionally, Tuya wants an order compelling the man to pay Ksh225,000 which she claims is half the school fees paid for the children at a Nairobi School.

Among the conditions set for the man to continue accessing the children is an additional Ksh100,000 for the children’s entertainment needs and a further Ksh 100,000 for their upkeep.
Tuya was appointed to her current position in 2022 after the Kenya Kwanza Coalition assumed power.
Prior to her appointment, the CS had served as the Women Representative of Narok County.
